IMPORTANT NOTE: These recipes and the shopping list are just there to help give you some ideas. If there are things you’re allergic to, don’t like, or whatever, please make whatever you love, and that feels right for you. The point is to work within a budget and eat real food – that’s it! Thanks for coming along on this adventure!
Original message:
Eat Yourself Well is about how to get and stay inspired to eat REAL food – food that heals, creates vibrant health, and leads to great eating habits in the future (no more cravings!). But the most common question we get, by FAR, is: “How can my family eat real food on really tight budgets?
It’s a REAL problem. One in 7 (15%) are on the SNAP food assistance program, providing about $1.19 per meal per person. Another 20% live on unassisted food budgets at or below this level. 35% of Americans; 40% of families with children.
So for Hunger Action Month, we’ve created the REAL FOOD 100/4/7 CHALLENGE! Bloggers will be creating shopping lists and recipes to provide a family of 4 with healthy, filling, REAL FOOD for 7 days, for <$100. These will be posted Sept 22-28. Your challenge is to live within that budget (or if you have fewer/more people, please see/use the numbers below). Please join us!

It won’t be easy, because as a nation our values are a little whacked: the foods that our government subsidizes are mostly turned into nutritionally-depleted (but cheap) packaged/fast foods that hurt rather than help your health. But in the end, families for whom this is a challenge EVERY week, rather than this one week, will have shopping lists and recipes to help guide them to better health.
Actual (typical) scale for more/fewer people than 4:
1 person: $45/week
2 people: $68/week
3 people: $87/week
4 people: $101/week
5 people: $115/week
6+ people: $129/week
