How to Use Pomegranate
10 minServes 2
Pomegranate seeds - called arils - are one of the most antioxidant-rich foods on the planet. They're also beautiful, delicious, and incredibly versatile. The only barrier is knowing how to get them out of the fruit without making a mess. Once you know the trick, you'll be adding them to everything.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe pomegranate
- Optional additions: yogurt, oatmeal, salads, grain bowls, sparkling water
Instructions
- 1Score the pomegranate around the equator with a sharp knife - just through the skin, not deep.
- 2Hold the pomegranate over a large bowl of cold water. Break it open along the score.
- 3Working underwater, use your fingers to gently loosen the arils from the white pith. The arils sink, the pith floats.
- 4Skim off the floating pith. Drain the arils.
- 5Pat dry and use immediately or store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Jennifer's tip
The water method is the secret - it keeps the juice from spraying everywhere and makes cleanup effortless.
