Savory Saffron Elixir

10 minServes 1

A warm, golden elixir built around saffron and cardamom - two of the most ancient and restorative spices in the world. Simmered gently in nut milk with a touch of vanilla and honey, this is the kind of drink that slows you down and reminds you to savor.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup nut milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Dash of honey or agave
  • Pinch of saffron threads
  • Seeds of 1 cardamom pod, ground
  • Garnishes: cinnamon, turmeric, cordyceps, saffron

Instructions

  1. 1Combine all ingredients except garnishes in a small pan.
  2. 2Heat until almost boiling, stirring every minute or so, then reduce to medium-low.
  3. 3Simmer for 1–2 minutes.
  4. 4Pour into a cup and garnish as you like with cinnamon, turmeric, cordyceps, and extra saffron threads.

Jennifer's tip

Have fun with the garnishes - a pinch of turmeric, a dusting of cinnamon, and a few extra saffron threads make this feel like a ritual.
